Dr. Roland Thorpe, Jr., PhD (Professor, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health) is the Director of the Program for Research on Men's Health at the Hopkins Center for Health Disparities Solutions. Dr. Thorpe leads the Black Men's Health Survey, a National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities-funded project that assesses the health status, health behavior, and health-seeking behavior of Black men across their life course. Dr. Thorpe will:

  • discuss the impact of COVID-19 on older Black men and its broader implications on health equity; and
  • provide guidance on how patient/consumer organizations may navigate the post-COVID-19 landscape regarding health equity for older Black men.

Addressing Vaccine Hesitancy during COVID-19: The Role of Consumer and Patient Advocates

Dr. Rupali Limaye, PhD, MPH (Associate Scientist, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health) is an expert in vaccine behavior and decision-making. As the United States continues to make strides in vaccine distribution, patient and consumer health advocacy organizations have a crucial public health role in bolstering vaccine confidence. Dr. Limaye led a webinar in which she:

  • discussed health equity considerations pertinent to vaccine distribution;
  • suggested evidence-based methods for vaccine education; and
  • reviewed the public health role of community leaders and health advocacy organizations in increasing vaccine confidence among patients/consumers.

Keeping Our Focus on Science: Navigating the Landscape of Science Communication

  • discussed equitable communication strategies for health advocacy organizations who translate health and scientific evidence for constituents.
